I never used to think much about olive oil beyond cooking. To me, it was just another ingredient—something you drizzle over a salad or use to fry vegetables. But over time, I started paying more attention to the small things that influence overall health, and olive oil kept coming up in conversations, articles, and even casual recommendations from friends.
So I decided to give it a closer look—and eventually, a more consistent place in my daily routine.
What surprised me first was how versatile it is. Of course, it’s well known in the kitchen, especially in Mediterranean-style cooking, but I started noticing how people were using it beyond that. Some added a spoonful to their morning routine, others used it as part of their skincare, and quite a few mentioned its role in maintaining healthy hair.
That last part caught my attention.
I’m not someone who jumps on every trend, especially when it comes to hair care. There’s a lot of noise out there, and not everything works the way it’s advertised. But olive oil didn’t feel like a “trend.” It’s been used for centuries, and that kind of longevity usually means there’s something real behind it.
So I kept things simple. I started incorporating small amounts of olive oil into my meals more intentionally—nothing drastic, just replacing other fats where it made sense. At the same time, I experimented with using a small amount on my hair once or twice a week, mainly focusing on the ends.
What I noticed wasn’t dramatic overnight change, but rather gradual improvement. My hair felt less dry, easier to manage, and had a bit more natural shine. It wasn’t a miracle transformation, but it was enough to make me stick with it.
Beyond hair, I also appreciated how olive oil fits into a balanced lifestyle. It doesn’t require complicated routines or expensive products. It’s accessible, simple, and easy to incorporate without overthinking it. That’s something I value more and more—solutions that are sustainable rather than extreme.
Another thing I’ve come to appreciate is the quality factor. Not all olive oil is the same, and once I started paying attention to that, it made a difference. Choosing a good-quality, extra virgin option added not only better flavor to my food but also gave me more confidence in what I was using.
At the end of the day, olive oil isn’t a magic solution, and I don’t treat it like one. But it’s one of those small, consistent choices that can contribute to a bigger picture—whether that’s better meals, healthier-looking hair, or just a more mindful approach to everyday habits.
If there’s one takeaway from my experience, it’s this: sometimes the most effective additions to your routine aren’t the newest or most complicated ones—they’re the ones that have quietly stood the test of time.
And for me, olive oil is definitely one of them.
